A wonderful, insightful, and mesmerising evening was had recently at the V&A as the Essence team wondered in awe through the highly anticipated Alexander McQueen exhibition.
At first sight, we were impressed with the meticulous and well thought out curation of the exhibition; a hybrid of fashion and art, we were immediately gifted with goose bumps and a new found respect for the fashion design icon. In the first room we entered we saw a video of various catwalks and snippets from McQueen’s life with a voice-over over the top. McQueen spoke such words of wisdom and had a wonderful cavalier attitude about the world of fashion however as we delved further into the exhibition we saw much deeper McQueen words painted on the walls.
Not only were we touched by his words, we were bowled over by the stunning pieces he created, in particular the beautiful tartan, McQueen had taken his inspiration from all areas of his life, from Scotland, from his visits to different countries and his personal life.
McQueen designed his clothing in order to alter the shape of the body, and by looking through his pieces you could see he had succeeded. The extremely low waist lines elongated the female torso and completely changed the appearance of the model.
We strongly recommend paying this exhibition a visit if you have not done so already as this is not ordinary fashion exhibition, this is a fashion experience.
The exhibition runs until August 2nd and tickets are available on the website. http://www.vam.ac.uk/content/exhibitions/exhibition-alexander-mcqueen-savage-beauty/
